Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness around the world, not only in third world countries but cataracts are among the most treatable causes of diminished vision.
Cataracts can best be described as an opaque spot on the lens of the eye that you cannot see through. At best, you seem to be looking through a cloud or a haze, and this haze can vary in size, density and location. Therefore, its effect on your vision will also vary. Many people experience a general reduction in vision at first; they need more light to read by, or they have difficulty with street signs when they’re driving.
AIMYM on an annual basis sets up medical camps across India to help as many people as possible to restore their sight providing the necessary surgery for removing cataracts.
All India Muslim Youth Majlis arranged a free eye camp on 10.12.2010 at Kharag Pur, West Bengal.

Total 209 patients were checked, 89 male and 120 female, among them 27 patients were picked up for eye surgery and were referred to Eye Hospital on 14.12.2010. All arrangements were done for the Patient. The summary is as under:-
This was our first learning experience of setting of a satellite camp and it will certainly, form a guideline for future camps and for much better arrangements. It has been decided that the next eye camp will be held by the end of December, 2011 and meanwhile, another camp of Orthopedic Surgery will also be organized. |
