Among the five pillars of Islam, the fourth pillar is dedicated to preach fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. Also, known as Ramazan, the word finds it's origin in Arabic language, which denotes the ninth month in the Islamic Calendar called Hijri. It is believed to be the sacred month when Allah best of his utmost blessings upon Muslims.  The ritual of observing fast is the most important event in the month. Muslims abstain themselves from indulging in any kind of evil practice. Islamic religion defines evil in terms of anger, envy, greed, lust, malice, gossiping etc strictly. Sexual intercourse is prohibited during the fasting period. Purity is maintained at physical as well as mental level. The ritual of fasting is named as Sawm, which is again an Arabic term.

There is a stark difference between how Sunni Muslims perform Ramadan rituals and how Shia Muslims do. Sunni Muslims attempt to recite the whole Quran at one go via special eid-ul-fitr prayer ceremony, which they have named as 'Tarawih'. This goes on during the entire month of Ramadan. Whereas, Shia Muslims call the same practice as 'Bidah' and beware all not to perform it. Rather, they perform 'Qiyam-al-layl' or 'Tahajjud' at every night of the month.

The holy month of Ramadan is divided into three parts: Rahmat, Maghfirat and Nijat. While Rahmat means "mercy of God, Maghfirat means "forgiveness of God" and Nijat means "salvation". As their meaning suggest, Muslims (followers of the holy Quran), ask for Allah's blessings to make their life meaningful. There in lies the significance of Ramadan.

Ramadan is the period of purgation after which heaven is met. Ramadan ends with Eid-Ul-Fitr, which is one of the most celebrated festivals of Muslims across the world. Celebrate Ramadan in a healthy way while you ask for happiness for yourself and your loved ones.

The Blessed Month of Ramadan is a time to awaken compassion and solidarity with the hungry and poverty-stricken men, women, and children around the country. All India Muslim Youth Majlis enables Muslim donors to celebrate and give thanks during the Month of Ramadan by facilitating food distribution to families in need.

During the month of Ramadan All India Muslim Youth Majlis

  • Distributes food packages to needy families. (Food package components depend on region of distribution)
  • Delivers hot daily Iftar-dinners to the homes of poor families to ensure their privacy and dignity

Aqeeqah   Programs

Qurbani
Children are a blessing and they bring joy and happiness when they enter our lives. The birth of a child is a time to rejoice and give thanks to the Creator by sharing with the hungry and the destitute. Aqeeqah is a gracious program by which new parents and family members can celebrate the miracle of birth while making charitable work one of the first actions done on the child’s behalf.    More...

TQurbani or sacrifice is also known as Udhiyyah. It is Wajib upon all mature Muslims who, on the day of `Eid al-Adha, possess Nisab. Whoever qualifies for this is required to purchase a sheep or goat of more than one year in age, and slaughter that in the name of Allah after the `Eid prayer preferably on the same day.    More...

This is identical to the Qurbani, the only difference is that this is not a necessary act. The rules of the slaughter are the same as Qurbani. The rewards are the same and the benefits include feeding the poor. This service is available for Aqiqah (sacrifice in gratitude at the birth of a child), Walimah (sacrifice in gratitude at the time of marriage), and all other supererogatory sacrifices.    More...
Zakaat

Eid Gift Project

Zakaat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, is the giving of 2.5% of one's possessions (surplus wealth) to charity, generally to the poor and needy. The Shia double this to 5% of one's possessions. It is often compared to the system of tithing and alms, but it serves principally as the welfare contribution to poor and deprived Muslims, although others may have a rightful share. It is the duty of an Islamic community to distribute it fairly as well.    More...

Eid gifts are usually a package of food, some clothes and a toy for the family/children. The aim is to help provide a moment of normality and happiness to those whose lives have been torn apart.    More...
